I performed last night in Chapel Hill at the UNC Kenan-Flagler Business School for a group of MBA students. Their professor, Dr. Tim Flood, gave a presentation beforehand and then I did a performance and mini lesson and got everyone up to dance. This was part of their Global Immersion Elective course in preparation for their trip to Turkey. It was alot of fun!!

So this past Saturday certainly was a memorable one! There were tornado warnings all day. I was upstairs drying my hair and came downstairs thinking nothing about the weather, but then within 15 minutes the sky became as black as night and the wind picked up. I heard the newsman talking about an “impressive tornado” that was on the ground down the street from us and then I became nervous. I cleared out the closet under the stairs and we all hid under there for about 20 minutes until we thought it was safe to come out. We assumed everything was fine. Then I heard the entrance to our subdivision was blocked by firetrucks and that a friends house got hit by a tornado so we ventured out. There were trees down everywhere. It was unbelievable. Our end of the street was untouched, but on the opposite end it was not the case. The tornado came in through the entrance cut across and hit the opposite end of our street, taking out huge trees and doing alot of damage to houses. The damage was unbelievable. I still could not believe what had just happened. I came back home and finished getting ready for the show and performed that night with Souhail Kaspar and Naji Hilal. It was a hard day for me, one of my hardest performances I have ever had to do. I kept thinking about the Tornados and how just a couple hours ago, my kids were scared and crying. I feel so honored to have been a part of this wonderful show with some truly wonderful musicians. And I do feel blessed we were all safe after the storm. |
